Colder and searching for powder

Colder and searching for powder

PowderAlerts come and go, but the time to score some powder is getting shorter and shorter. The sun is much stronger than a month ago, which means the snow is getting wet quick and this gives you less time to score pow. We did score some pow. We were in Sestrière on Sunday and in La Grave today.

Current and short term

PowderAlert #26 brought 30-70 centimeters of freshies to the southern Alps and the northern Alps got some in the rebound. They had around 5-10 centimeters on Monday and I expect another 5-10 centimeters the next 24 hours. Winter will be back the next 48 hours with temperatures that will remind you of February. But…it will warm up pretty soon on places where the sun is shining and you’ll notice that in the snowcover immediately. You should go for steep north faces and tight forests the next couple of days. The faces that are influenced by the sun will be pretty hard in the morning. Especially in the resorts where the nights are clear and cold.

Powder advice short term (northern faces and tight forests)

Freshies came down in the southern Alps and the northern Alps the last 72 hours. The northern Alps can expect some freshies the next 24 hours. You’ll have to go there if you want to ride some freshies.

Long term

The temperature will rise to ‘normal’ or even higher for this time of the year from next weekend after two days of winter. The resorts that get a lot of snow from a western current will have the biggest chance for snow next weekend. But….the jetstream from the west is still moving back and forth and the forecast may chance the next couple of days.

Another update tomorrow.

Stay stoked
