La Meije (La Grave)

I’m in the Hautes Alps at the moment. We had some nice fluffy powder in Sestrière on Sunday, but our goal for the week was to ride some nice steep faces and couloirs. And that worked out pretty well on Monday and Tuesday. It’s great to do such things with friends who form a great team!

We did some great lines in La Grave under the guidance of Martijn Schell and Francois Lombard of powderguides.nl. Real classics such as the couloir de Banane, the Pan de Rideau, the couloir de Girose, La Vaute and the couloirs de Trifide are already checked and today we’re on the search for a next adventure.

Current

The skies are blue again and the night was cold in the Hautes Alps, but the first high clouds are getting in on the horizon. The first indication of PowderAlert #27. A warm front will pass from the southwest on Wednesday night and will bring the first snow to the French southern Alps on Wednesday and Thursday.A low pressure area above France will bring PA #27

You can see this low pressure area coming in on the föhn chart below. It’s quite logical that a front coming from the south will also bring a föhn coming from the south. But the image below is also showing snow for the northern Alps. But PowderAlert #27 will start with snow for the French southern Alps and föhn for the northern Alps. From southern föhn to northern föhn

The cold front is the strongest part of this low pressure area. This cold front will pass between Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning. You can expect the most snow in the western stau regions of the Ecrins and the Mont Blanc. This means freshies between Wednesday evening and Saturday morning and it’s time for PowderAlert #27!

Easter

Easter will start with snow in the northern Alps on Saturday and Sunday. The chance of snow in the southern Alps will increase after the weekend. I’m off for now. Living the search!

Stay stoked
