The Ortler, a 3905 meter high mountain located on the border of the South Tyrol and Lombardy is the highest peak of the Ortler massif. This peak has long been the highest mountain of Austria. Only after South Tyrol became part of Italy in 1919, the Grossglockner became the highest peak in Austria. The Ortler region is such a typical inner alpine region where winter normally starts early and lasts for a long time. Some freshies came down in the resorts around the Ortler today and looking at the pictures from Bormio 3000 the peaks are looking really good. That good that you would almost wish that they would turn on the Valbella chairlift.

Notable about the images of today is the fact that the resorts that are right on the Ortler massif have received the most fresh snow. The Passo Stelvio, the summit of Bormio and Sulda are white again. If you have a look at resorts such as Passo Tonale or Livigno, there’s less fresh snow.
The riding around the Ortler already was pretty good in December last winter (where the rest of the Alps was struggling). Will the Ortler region be the first again this winter?
