Around 2-10 centimeters, locally 15 centimeters of snow came down on Wednesday. The Bernese Oberland got the most snow and you can actually ride some powder there. This is the region in the Alps where you’ll find the best conditions. And the good news is: they will even get some more snow next week.
- Today is a powder day in the Bernese Oberland
- No precipitation this weekend and due to inversion warm at the peaks
- Some freshies for the northwest of the Alps from Tuesday
Today is a powder day
I already told you on Tuesday that you could make a powder turn or two on Thursday morning. Some freshies came down and you can find some nice snow. Nothing special, but hey, if you are around, it’s better than no snow at all.
The Swiss Bernese Oberland, Wallis and some parts of the French Savoie and Isère are the parts of the Alps where the snow cover is getting close to the long year average. The conditions on the slopes in the Austrian regions of Vorarlberg, western Tyrol and the glaciers in Austria are pretty good as well. But the further east and south you go, the more white ribbons in a green landscape you’ll find.
No precipitation this weekend
A weak front ‘touches’ the east of the Alps on Saturday, but that’s nothing special. The sun is dominating in the rest of the Alps, with persistent clouds in some valleys. The temperature will rise on the peaks due to inversion. We will have to wait till Tuesday before a front will try to reach the Alps.
Some freshies for the northwest of the Alps from Tuesday
A front appears on the maps of most weather models on Tuesday. It was already there yesterday, but since there’s still a lot of high pressure around, there’s still room for some changes. But yes, there’s a chance that it might snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. We have to deal with a warm front first and the cold front will come in on Tuesday. Please note, this isn’t set in stone yet. It will snow above 1500-2000 meters on Tuesday, but the snow line will drop later. There’s a southwest component in this storm so it might even snow in the southern Alps. For now, I expect around 15-25 centimeters, locally even 40 centimeters above 2000 meters and especially in the northwest of the Alps.
I’ll update you in the comments the next couple of days. The next forecast will be published on Sunday, because it’s to early to tell you something about the second part of next week.
Stay stoked
Morris

Don’t be to optimistic. Snow is coming for the higher areas. No real signs of winter yet. Keep on dancing. We need snow and winter!
