Can we ride powder during Easter?

Can we ride powder during Easter? It will be quite exciting from a weather perspective the next couple of days. The atmosphere is in transition from winter to summer and that makes the dynamics quite hard to predict. The battle between cold air from the north and warm air from the south is still going strong and small changes can have big consequences. The snow cover between 1500 and 2000 meters on the other hand has reached it’s maximum this season and pretty much every lift in the Alps is running. The best thing: there are some signals visible on the weather maps that indicate some freshies! The perfect weekend for a powder trip, but wait with choosing you destination. If you are traveling to the Alps the next couple of days and you want to support wePowder and this forecast, book your accommodation using this link. We receive a small percentage of every booking made through this link and this helps us a lot to improve wePowder and advice you even better. Thanks in advance! In this forecast:

It was ON in the Piedmont

It snowed heavily in the Piedmont during PowderAlert #12 and you could even find a lot of powder on north faces and in the trees days after the snowfall. Some pictures from the last couple of days!

And we received some footage as well. Check out this crystal clear footage from Prali:

You can still find some great powder on north faces thanks to the cold nights and the low humidity.

Some sun, some clouds and some flakes coming down

Not much will happen in the Alps the next couple of days. The Alps are located on the edge of a no man’s land of high pressure to the north and low pressure to the south. This might result in some freshies in the southern Piedmont and the northeast of Austria, but it’s not certain. What I’m sure of is that the valleys will be filled with clouds, but that the sun will shine above 1500 meters in most regions in the Alps. The next couple of days are therefore perfect to go on a tour. Please remember that the influence of the sun is increasing during the day. So get up early, ride some cold powder on north faces or go for a nice spring corn snow run on southern faces.

PowderAdvice till Thursday: go out on a tour

You’ll probably find some good snow in lots of resorts in the Alps above 1500-2000 meters. Go out with a mountain guide if you don’t have that much experience. You’ll be surprised where those guys can bring you! And always carry an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe!

It will be exciting. The outcome of the maps differed from run to run the last couple of days. One time a periode with low temperatures and snowfall is calculated for the north, the run right after predicts higher temperatures with snow from the southwest and dropping temperatures from the northwest. And right after happens what seems to be normal this winter: the temperature will rise again.

Whatever it will be be, there a plenty of positive indications for a great Eater weekend. There’s room for cold temperatures and sunshine on the maps. The Easter weekend could be a good on. The next update will be published tomorrow!

Stay stoked! Morris
