Tuesday will be a powder day

Today already is a powder day in the west of the Alps, but at the time of writing it still snowing in large parts of the northern Alps. The snow will continue to fall the next couple of hours, but the sun will come out everywhere on Tuesday. It will be cold in the morning and a real powder day. With a little bit of luck you’ll be the first on the Laub in Engelberg or you’ll have first tracks in the couloir Gemsstock in Andermatt. It is not crowded in the Alps and you can enjoy around 20-35 centimeters of freshies in the morning. The temperatures will rise in the afternoon and the avalanche risk will rise, but those first runs in cold powder are worth it.

Spring conditions after Wednesday

High pressure will arrive in the Alps after today and the current will turn to the southeast to south. As a result the temperatures will rise. But you can find some fresh powder above 2500 meters on steep north faces even after Tuesday. If you want to go out the next couple of days, keep in mind that the sun has quite a lot of inlfluence during the day. The temperatures will drop again after the weekend of the 23rd-24th of April.

Northern Stau

Another northern Stau from Sunday?

The battle between warm and cold air is not over yet. Next weekend’s cold air will make a brave effort to give us the last PowderAlert of the season. The maps are quite positive and the calculations are more than hopeful. It looks like that we can ride some powder in the resorts on the north side of the Alpes between the 25th and the 27th of April. More details later this week.
