September is colder than normal. And that’s good news after a very warm summer. The glaciers already had their fourth dump of the month. And that’s great for the snow cover on the glaciers. The race teams are training again and the slopes are in great condition (especially considering the fact it’s only September).
There are some resorts that already have their lifts running. Check out the list below:
Already open
- Zermatt
- Saas Fee
- Sölden
- Pitztaler Glacier
- Stubaier Glacierr
- Hintertuxer Glacierr
- Mölltaler Glacierr
- Val Senales (race training, but more slopes are opening)
- Passo dello Stelvio
Definitely not the time to ski out-of-bounds
Don’t even think about freeriding at the moment. These are the first dumps of the seasons and there are a lot of crevasses on the glaciers, sometimes only meters away from the groomed slopes. When you want to enjoy the fresh snow, just enjoy it on the slopes. Simple as that. One of the reasons why we follow the snowfall during this time of the year is that you can get an impression on who the snow cover is building up in the high alpine. This information will hopefully lead to making the right decisions when skiing in the backcountry later this season.
Stoked anyway?
