Exposition

Left from the entrance to the Zillertal you will find Alpbach. Just after the vooralpen it's the first level of peaks heading towards the alpenhoofdkam. Snow comes here from the northwest to the northeast and stays remarkably fresh because of the north facing slopes. When there is a weststau or, even worse, a zuidfohn there's no need to be here. The snow gets sticky fast as a result of the increasing temperatures. This is especially true from the end of February onwards, when the sun reaches over the higher peaks. In the heart of winter, an ideal destination (if the snow comes from the north).

With bad weather

Plenty of trees here, but quite often the spacing is (too) tight. Therefore, not all runs are suitable to learn your first tree-runs

First day of the season. Limited snow and only a few runs open but an earlier start to the season than the last few years
