Exposition

Belalp is situated on south facing slopes of the north alpine ridge. The sunny slopes offer views of the 4000ers of the north alpine ridge on the opposite side of the valley. Therefore snow seldomly comes from the north or south and certainly not in the middle of the winter. Due to the inneralpine location, snow is coserved for long periods even on south facing slopes. Snow and clouds from the southwest to west are forced through the narrow Ober-Wallis valley, cool down and snow out there. From the end of Februari onwards the force of the sun increases and you're beter off in Zermatt, Andermatt (via the tunnel) or Lötschental.

With bad weather

Below the cable car that connects the village with the middle station, one can find a nice forest that offers protection on days when it's dumping. The wildschutz here is not legally enforced but is a recommendation. On low visibility days nice lines can be scored here.
