Exposition

Before crossing the Julier pass, it sometimes happens you will have to stay the night in Bivio. This happens when the pass closes due to heavy dumping at one side of the pass. Only in early or late winter, it sometimes happens that the pass gets closed because Bivio is the eye of the storm. This because Bivio in located "inneralpine", which means near to the main alpine ridge. This makes that it is usually cold so that the snow remains fresh, although it can be windy at some times, which is not good. It's best in spring (from the end of February) when the tour season starts.

With bad weather

No trees means no shelter if it dumps. But mid winter there are hardly any big dumps.
