Braunwald is a real snow trap in the Swiss Glanerland. About double the amount of snow falls here at an altitude of 1500 to 2000m, compared to the rest of Switzerland. Why? Well, situated at the foot of the nothern alpine ridge the mountains here pick up just about every snowflake between west and northeast. Braunwald offers it's best just after a Nordstau if frigid air has managed to settle in the Alps. The cold air is necessary to preserve the snow on the primarily east facing, and thus sun prone, slopes.

With bad weather

There are enough trees below Gumen and Seblengrat for a day. During a dump this is the place to be.
