The Gastein valley is situated in the most eastern part of the Austrian Alpes, that's why it can be very cold in the mid of winter. Deep in the valley lies Sportgastein. During a nordstau in the east the snow even reaches Sportgastein, and early and late in the season weather fronts from the southwest can deliver a surprise. Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein in the north of the valley have the best conditions during January and February.

With bad weather

In Sportgastein there are no forests anywhere near the lifts. So wait untill the sun comes out and go play in the forests of the other areas in the Gasteinertal.

Pretty nice conditions in Bad Gastein today. The wind has done its job but really nice just at the tree line.
