Exposition

Behind the Arlberg in the Paznauntal lies Kappl. The lifts are situated on a south slope and you'll find out by the middle of february when the sun is powerful enough to transform the snow even on the coldest days. Because it's situated behind the Arlberg it takes less snow than the Vorarlberg resorts. However in the heart of winter it stays cold enough. Especially in the forests the snow stays fresh for days because of the shadow of the trees. However the deck is thinner in the thinner in the forrest because the snow still thaws out in early winter, while it stays on the north slopes. Snow comes form the north by north west direction here. Föhn wind comes from a south western direction.

With bad weather

Skier left and skier right from the Diasbahn it's sheltered enough. Watch out! This is a south slope and the snow deck is usually thinner.

Kappl yesterday. But still very tricky conditions out there. Think twice and choose the safer option!
