Exposition

Katschberg is situated between the Alpine north ridge in the north and the Karnisch main ridge in the south. Therefore It is a very inner alpine area in Austria where snow has difficulty to arrive. The optimal condition for a dump coming from the east is a low pressure area east of Austria moving to the south. As I said earlier, this doesn’t happen very often. This area resides at a altitude between 1600 and 2200 meters, a non-typical Austrian situation. However this ensures that the snow, which comes early in the season, remains. When you book early for your trip, the chance that you will score powder is almost zero.

With bad weather

The number of days that it will dump here are scarce, but when it does it pays of with fresh powder. Enjoy it while it last.
