Exposition

Les 7 Laux lies in the so-called Chaîne Belledone. This is a mountain range that only has the mountains of Chartreuse in the West in front of it. It stretches from Grenoble in the south to Chambery in the north and elevates to about 2600 meters altitude. The Belledone represents the first serious test for fronts from the west and are part of the first Alps. Warm fronts from the southwest rarely provide snow, but the subsequent cold fronts from the west to the northwest provide much snow in a short period. With a western jetstream it can snow for days. Due to the advanced position, spring already starts in Marchch and the snow rapidly becomes slushy.

With bad weather

The road to Les 7 Laux even when intense snowfall rarely closed. The woods above Prapoutel provide shelter and a view of those moments when it snows a lot.
