Exposition

If you include the Alagna valley the Monta Rosa resort consists of thee valleys that open up towards the South. On the north side the range separates itself from the main Alpine ridge: by a couple of big peaks. This means the snow comes in from the south. Clouds coming in from the Po valley are forced to climb around 4000m over a distance of 50km. This causes a lot of snow and a lot of orographic violence. Conditions are ideal in the absence of the North Föhn. Though close to the main Alpine ridge this isn’t a typically inner Alpine area. Warm winds come into the valley relatively easily and the area lacks a massive Northern face that offers some cooling. So if you want to enjoy this Southern powder you’d better be fast.

With bad weather

The larch forests in Champoluc and Gressoney provide plenty cover.
