Exposition

Pitztal starts at the river Inn and ends in the main alpine ridge which ensures you that it's always snowing somewhere in this area. This is one of the major advantages of this area. It brings you early season powder on the pistes of the glacier. At lower altitudes the alpine meadows in Hochzeiger are the best places to go at the sight of the first snow. As from mid February, challenging big mountain lines are to be found at Rifflsee and the Pitztaler glacier. In case of a Northstau: Hochzeiger is the place to be. In case of a weststau the Pitztaler glacier is best ripped after the wind has calmed down. A southstau though, brings hardly any snow to this area.

With bad weather

The southern part of the valley doesn't have any trees, therefore you should go to Hochzeiger. In case of a massive dump, it is worth it to drive down further south, to Zams-Landeck which contains some very nice tree runs, a so called fairy tale forest.
