Exposition

Rauris is located in a valley north of the Goldberggruppe, which means north of the main alpine ridge. Southstau will never bring snow, but southfohn is something to take into account. Because of its location deep in the Alps, northwestern fronts usually lose the majority of the snow already before reaching Rauris. Most snow comes from north to north-east. Good news is that until early March, the snow that comes down is kept well conserved on the mainly eastern facing slopes. After that the influence of the sun will get too strong.

With bad weather

How many trees do you need? This is a great area during a dump. Be careful though: because of its location deep in the Alps, there is on average less snow, so only advisable when there is a good base layer.
