A real triple stager appeared on the maps the last couple of days, where there is a big chance of 2 to 4 meters of freshies the next 14 days and this might locally even be 5 meters of snow coming down. Obviously, this won’t lead to walls of snow of 5 meters, but the snow will settle to a great base for the rest of the season. We’re talking about a base for the southwest, south and main alpine ridge in the Alps. Check out yesterday’s forecast to see where that 5 meters of snow are coming from. The next 12 days it will be one big centimeter count, where we’ll keep a close eye on the snow line. Because that snow line will go up and down the next couple of days. Updates from the Alps today!

Yes, the snow line locally dropped below 1500 meters. This will make a good road trip in the southern Alps with a base like that!
4-11 17.09, snow line drops rapidly in the western Piemonte and the stau of the Ecrins
The freezing level south of the Gotthard and the Monte Rosa is around 2100 and 2350 meters, but it’s dropping rapidly at the moment in the western Piemonte. The freezing level already dropped already to 1800 meters east of the Mont Viso and seems to drop further the next couple of hours with al the cold air coming in from the west.
4-11 17.06 Up to 50 cm of freshies already
The snowfall in the Piemonte and south of the Gotthard is intensifying. A number of weather stations are already reporting up to 50 centimeters off freshies and the real fireworks still have to start. Talk about perspective!
4-11 11.57 Snow line locally drops to around 2000 meters
The snow line drops in the stau of the Monte Rosa and the Gotthard region to around 2000 meters. This is what we want to see!

4-11 10:50 Snow line at 2250 meter
It will rain at high altitude. Wet snow above 2200 meters, dry snow can be found at 2800 meters or higher. The next couple of hours the snow line will go up and down between 1600 and 2300 meters.
4-11 10.25 First snow on the webcams
The first snow is coming in from the south. It’s even snowing in Isola 2000 and that’s only 100 kilometers from the Mediterranean. You can see on the webcam that most of the snow of the last dump in the Diavolezza already melted. It will become white again the next couple of days.

Reports come in from Italy where they had 30 mm of rain in just 3 hours time. Local observations report tremendous amounts of rain.
