Avalanche claims second deadly victim this season

Avalanche claims second deadly victim this season

There was’t any news concerning avalanches for a long time simply because of a lack of snow in most of the regions in the Alps, but the first avalanche victim (skiing) of winter 14/15 is there. A 57 year old Frenchman died because of an avalanche while touring in the Simplon region in Switzerland on Monday. The avalanche danger that day was two. He was on his way with two others, who have been saved. This is the second deadly avalanche victim of the season in the Swiss Alps. On the 20th of November, a hiker was caught by an avalanche and died because of trauma. There has been several reports of avalanches on the border of France and Italy last week. Fortunately, no one got hurt.

Watch out!

The season is only just starting and we know you’re eager to go out there, but please take care. And not only for avalanches, but the snow cover is still pretty thin on lots of places and the risk that you hit a shark is pretty high. Check your daily avalanche bulletin and adapt your plans to it. And please keep in mind that you might hit a rocky surface pretty quick, especially in the northern Alps.
