Avalanche during FWT in Kappl

Avalanche during FWT in Kappl

The stop of Freeride World Tour in Fieberbrunn moved to Kappl in the Paznauntal, just like last year. The organization had chosen Kappl as ‘the safest venue’, but that safety is relative has been showed again this morning.

Avalanche

Rider Julien Lopez hikes back up a few meters to get back his ski after falling when he hits a weak layer and the snow starts to slide. Julien pulls his ABS and fortunately is rescued really quick. The contest has been canceled.

Unstable snow cover

It indicates that freeriding is associated with calculated and especially minimized risks, which even can go wrong during a stop of the Freeride World Tour and it shows that the snow cover is currently very unstable. Ride safe everybody!
