May and June extremely wet and snowy in Switzerland

The months May and June were extremely wet in Switzerland. About 1.5 to 2.5 times as much precipitation than average was measured in lots of places. That precipitation came down as rain in most valleys, but especially in May it snowed heavily a couple of times and in some cases the snowline even dropped to a 1000 meter and lower.

The precipitation came down as snow above the tree line. It was often too cold for the time of year so we were able to record bizarre graphs. On the charts below you will see a blue line that shows the snow pack of last winter. If you look at the blue line you see that the snow pack fluctuated below the long-year average for a long time, but by the end of the season (when most of the lifts were closed) it recovered and went up to record levels for the time of the year. Are we facing some kind of shift of the seasons here?

Winter '15-'16 was quite special. Read the article about winter '15-'16 here.
