It is snowing heavily in the French Southern Alps and the Piedmont today and Friday. The first snow came down in the night from Wednesday to Thursday and we’ll follow the storm in the next 36 hours. It is quite a dump, but it’s the wrong type of storm. A so-called warm storm after a cold storm causes the temperature to rise and the snow line will end up between 2500 and 3000 meters. 6.25 AM: First snow coming down
The first snow is visible on the webcams in the Italian Piedmont. You can see the flakes coming down under the lights of this mountain hut.
7.45 AM: Snow line below 1400 meter
Yes, it’s snowing at dawn. It’s already white in the great resort of Prali. But it’s also snowing more to the south in Limone Piemonte.

9.10 AM: Lots of freshies in the French Queyras
It’s snowing heavily in the French Queyras, the region close to the Mont Viso and that marks the border with the Italian Piedmont in the east. Check out more information about the Queyras here, it’s a hidden gem for freeriders!
9.20 AM: Closed mountain passes
Lots of mountain passes are closed. The Col de l’Izoard, Agnel and the peak of the Galibier are closed. Winter tires or snow chains are obligatory for the Galibier tunnel.
9:24 AM: Snow near the Mont Viso
It’s not only snowing in the Italian Piedmont, but also here, near the Mont Viso.
It’s also snowing in the Aosta valley.
9:49 AM: The temperature in the Alps
It’s pretty cold right now…
…but the temperature will rise on Friday at the end of the day.

Meteoalarm gives a warning for the snow fall in the northwest of Italy.
Lots of rain is expected in the south of France. Up to 250 mm and more!
There’s less precipitation coming down in the Alps and mostly as snow above 1500-2000 meters.
