The glaciers are white again

It’s September, the meteorological autumn has started and fortunately the glaciers have picked up some snow. They had to deal with heat wave Lucifer this summer and they suffered from high temperatures. The glaciers were still gray a week ago. The storm from last weekend brought back our favorite color: white! Check out the before-after images below.

There’s more good news. The Alps will get some more fresh snow this weekend. Hopefully, this snow won’t melt on the glaciers and will form the base for the next couple of months. But this is probably wishful thinking, since September is still a month where the sun is high in the sky and the relatively flat glaciers have to deal with the direct radiation of the sun. There’s only a very small chance that this snow will make it to winter. But hey, after a summer like that, every flake is welcome!
