Climber Hayden Kennedy and Partner Inge Perkins Dead After Avalanche

Perkins was killed by the slide. Kennedy survived, but distraught at the loss, took his own life.

Twenty-seven-year-old Hayden Kennedy, one of America’s most talented and accomplished alpinists, and Inge Perkins, a sponsored climber and ski mountaineer, are dead after being caught in an avalanche south of Bozeman, Montana, on Saturday, October 7.

Just two weeks before renowned climber Hayden Kennedy killed himself following the death of his girlfriend in an avalanche in Montana, he wrote on a climbing blog that he had watched too many friends die in the mountains over the last few years.

"I've realized something painful. It's not just the memorable summits and crux moves that are fleeting. Friends and climbing partners are fleeting, too," he wrote for the "Evening Sends" blog. "This is the painful reality of our sport, and I'm unsure what to make of it. Climbing is either a beautiful gift or a curse."

Ja, ook gelezen. Hele heftige rillingen. Als ik er over ga nadenken... man, man, man.

    Poeh. Treurig verhaal inderdaad.

Ik vond Haydens eerdere stuk over verlies van zijn klimbuddies waar naar verwezen wordt trouwens ook wel lezenswaardig. Als het gaat om motivatie en omgaan met verlies in het klimmen / bergsport.
