The first ski resort in the US has opened!

I posted a snow map of Colorado last Saturday. An active storm was about to move into the southwest with snow for northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.

The expected a total of about 12-15 inches of fresh snow. 20 inches of fresh snow came down into Wolf Creek eventually. The result was that the lifts could be opened last weekend. The powder season started in North America on Sunday the 14th of October.

The first snow fell in Taos, New Mexico last weekend as well. This ski area is located on the same latitude as Rabat in Morocco. The peaks were white on Sunday morning and it’s still snowing lightly today.

Not much later it began to snow on the East Coast of the US. No large amounts, but the first snow of the season was there!

No winter in the Alps

At the same time, there is still no winter in the Alps. It is sunny, warm and there’s no precipitation. Nevertheless, they will soon open the first slopes in Kitzbühel on the Resterhöhe. With last year’s snow that has been spread over the alpine meadows over the past few days, the first turns can be made soon.

It will remain warm in the Alps this week, but there is a chance that the weather will change this weekend (from the 20th). More about that later this week.
