The Alps as the crow flies from north to south: bizarre difference

Powder buddy Arno flew from The Netherlands to Italy last week. He had a window seat and he could visualize the difference between the northern and southern Alps at the moment.

Just accross the main alpine ridge, the highest peaks caught snow on the south side of the Alps, but the valleys are already green. You can see the Mont Blanc in the west on the second picture below.
