It's winter above 3000 m!

It's not much, but every snowflake is one. The images below are from today and that's more winter we've seen for the last couple of days, weeks and months. It even was an occassion for the SLF to publish an avalanche bulletin.

And I quote from it:

In English: Amidst a persistent barrier-cloud situation on the southern flank of the Alps, there was a large amount of precipitation in southern high alpine regions on Saturday, 11.10, and then to a greater degree on Monday, 13.10. The snowfall level remained nearly unchanged at 2700 to 3000 m. Southerly winds were frequently blowing at strong velocity, intensively transporting the new fallen snow. Between Friday, 10.10, and Monday evening, 13.10, the following amounts of fresh fallen snow were registered above approximately 3300 m:

  • Main Alpine Ridge from the Rheinwaldhorn over Avers and Bergell into Bernina region: 80 to 100 cm

  • Simplon region, southern Goms, Glarner Alps and remaining Grisons: 20 to 50 cm

  • remaining regions: generally less than 20 cm

Below approximately 3000 m, most of the precipitation fell as rain.

And that results in the pictures below. It is sometimes more (such as around the Diavolezza) and sometimes less. But every flake is a flake.
