Par Arjen sur 27 mars 2018 · 0

Learning to use a transceiver is key for being safe in the mountains, Xavier de Le Rue rides with his avalanche gear (transceiver, shovel and probe) every time he rides in the backcountry. He also nearly always use an ABS back pack.

Xavier briefly explains to you how to use your avalanche beacon in the video above:

  1. Always check if your avalanche beacon and the ones of your friends are switched on every morning before you'll hit the mountain
  2. In case of an avalanche: start with the 'signal search', or do everything to pick up the first signal.
  3. You've got a signal? Enter the 'coarse search' phase. Follow the arrows on your avalanche beacon and make sure that the distance is getting smaller.
  4. Fine search
  5. Use your probe in a spiral pattern until you find the victim. Then start digging
  6. And do not forget: practice, practice, practice.
