Monday afternoon it started to snow across the Northern Alps including the French Northern Alps. As expected the most snow came down in the so-called pre-Alps. Today (Tuesday) the weather will slowly change from the west and the sun will come out in the course of the day in the French Northern Alps, Valais and the west of the Bernese Oberland. Farther east, it will keep on snowing in the northern Alps. Most snow will fall north of the line Engelberg-Innsbruck Radstadt. You can expect around 30-50 cm of freshies between Monday and Wednesday. Further west and south you can expect 10-30 cm. South of the main alpine ridge and in the French Southern Alps it remains dry and sunny. Wednesday still some snow in the Northeast, but the sun will come out soon. It’s a calm before a new storm.
Where to go?
From today till Thursday. It will be ON from Wednesday morning.

Northern Alps West (especially the northern resorts)
And to convince you … it’s pretty good now in the northern Alps. The following pictures are from last weekend and shot in the east. And it will only get better.
PA#9: D-E-E-P!
PowderAlert #8 is a nice prelude to PA #9. Because then it gets really deep. I have long doubted whether we simply continue under PA #8, but this storm is so intense and deserves its own alert. Storm Leonhard looses his grip on the Alps and a high pressure area allows some sunshine, but that is only short-lived. West of Leonhard storm Mischka is ready and this will shake things up in the Alps. Starting Thursday, the current then turns to the northwest and more snow will come down.
Initially a lot of snow will come down between the Arlberg and Grenoble, where the core of the storm lies in the northern French Alps and western Switzerland. Between Thursday and Sunday it will snow really intense and you can expect 100-150 centimeters in the most precipitous areas till Sunday. This weekend will be a weekend for the better tree runs. Check the runs you want to ride right now, because it will be tree runs galore from Friday / Saturday.
Where to go?
From Friday to Monday. Whereby the tree runs will be really ON from Saturday. Expect 150 cm locally in the French Northern Alps and western Switzerland.

Western Alps North (it will be D-E-E-P)
-
Northern Alps West (especially the resorts in the north)
-
Northern Alps Central (especially the Arlberg and the pre-Alps)
In addition to the northwest of the Alp, the Southern Alps East will also get their share. The details for this are not entirely clear, but the more easterly the better. And then there are the Pyrenees.
Uberdeep in the Pyrenees
The snow maps don’t really show it, but it will be really deep in the Pyrenees between Thursday and Sunday. Especially in the northwest of the Pyrenees it will be on like Donkey Kong. Please keep the rise of the avalanche danger and the big crowds during the weekend in mind. It will remain cold after the weekend and there is even more snow coming.
Plenty of powder to be found. Both the next couple of days, as this weekend. Opt for tree runs. A lot safer and less crowds.
More tomorrow. Stay stoked!

Sick!
Where exactly do you define the pre-Alps (in North/Central sector)?
Is courmayeur a part of this? Yr.no gives more precipitation there than north of the ridge…
