Hi We are a family of expert level skiier/snowboarders in Spain for the year looking for the best place to book a week trip Feb 22 - March 2. Looking to beat the crowds with expert runs. Any advice on where we can go that does not have long lines and enough interesting expert runs?
Andorra in the Pyrenees is close and fantastic; the World Freeride Tour is run there for a good reason. I think Le Vacances should be over by March 22. But really, there's so many choices. We liked the variety at Val Frejus and it wasn't crowded. If you have a car, consider basing out of Briancon to ski Val Frejus, Serre Chevalier, Puy St. Vincent and Vars/Risoul. Or drive up the Maurienne to ski Val Frejus, Val Cenis and Bonneval Sur Arc.
Andorra is really a collection of 3 different ski areas where the FWT holds a stop at Valnord/Ordino/Arcalis. I have not been, but friends who have and are on the FWT say it's one of the best, if not THE best place on the FWT.
There's a lot of acreage overall, and at Arcalis there's a big cirque, mostly north facing with a lot of couloirs, some of which are rarely skied. If you're willing to hike or tour, there's enough expert to extreme terrain to last for quite a while. Even if you just strictly ride lifts, there's a lot to investigate.
