Has anyone been to Georgia?

    Hello,

while searching for locations I came across Georgia and was wondering if anyone has been there? Flights seem very cheap but it seems hard to find good information on snow quality and guides. Most guided trips are running multiple days and seem rather expensive. I am not too sure if we want to commit to a few days long guided trip and rather book guides on a daily basis.

Looking forward to get some feedback!

I organised a journalist trip to Gudauri but was unable to go due to work reasons. Two users of this forum went instead, so you might want to get in otuch with them: Juergen Groenwals & Juergen de Grauwe. The report appeared in the 2015 winter book of Belgium's "WIntersportGids" and can be read here: http://wintersportgids.be/skigebieden/georgie/

@Philphed I was in Georgia a few years ago. Snow can be good but depends on the winter. A real drawback of Gudauri is the fact that most of the pistes are on a south face. There a really good runs on the backside though but you need to arrange transport to get back to the resort. Don't go to late in the season. End of february and the beginning of March is normally the best period.
May the powder be with you.

Get the helo package. Don't go to ski on slopes. But I guess that's self-evident 😃

@Philphed Check out the following links (they offer day trips, multi day trips and backcountry camps):

    http://wildguru.com/en/tour-s_en/freeride_en/

    http://www.freeride.ge/

I'm going there most likely around the last week of February and first week of March to hopefully get the best of some freeriding from the resort as well as good conditions for a couple of days in the backcountry around either Khorisar or Chaukhi.

Thank you! I came across the wildguru site and will also check out the other one. Tetnuldi / Mestia in the Svaneti region seem to be recommended as well..
