My name is Michiel de Ruijter (1976) and living in Utrecht, the Netherlands. For as long as I can remember, my live is involved in sports. First as an athlete and competitor, later as an instructor, teacher, guide, organizer or manager. If there were 100 sports in total, I've probably tried 95 of them and still in for a new challenge. I had a late start at skiing, but have caught up pretty well. At that time I used to climb a lot and was working as an outdoor sport instructor in the Scottish Highlands, the Ardennes, Pyrenees and Alps. I thought that skiing would be a good addition to my mountain sport activities and might come in handy along the way. Until the moment someone invited me to participate in an instructor course, skiing was just blazing down any slope or run with a maximum of three turns and one hockey stop. After finishing my Austrian level 2, I started working for the Skischule Arlberg in St. Anton am Arlberg. In the 4 seasons I worked 'am Arlberg' I developed myself as instructor and guide and focused on terrain skiing, freeriding and successfully finishing the Austrian state certified ski teacher and ski guide courses. In that time I experimented with different methods, with my private guests and groups, from which I developed the main concept of my activities today. Today I'm owner of Epique – Mountain Adventures. Epique organizes training and guiding for beginner to expert skiers and snowboarders in and outside Europe.
