Powder weekend?

A weak northern Stau will reach the Alps on Saturday as expected, with only a small retour d’est from Saturday to Sunday. Not an epic alert, but some freshies anyway. But hey, it’s still November, the conditions are great and a lot of resorts still have to open there lifts. What a lot of them will do this weekend. First tracks guaranteed and a sunny Sunday.

Short term

A weak front is moving into the northern Alps during the night from Friday to Saturday. As a result, Saturday will start cloudy in the northern Alps. You can expect around 5-20 centimeters of freshies above 900 meter. The most snow will fall in the Swiss northern alpine ridge and the north stau regions in Austria, Engelberg, the Glaner Alps, Vorarlberg and the Kleinwalsertal.

The front will reactivate later that day in the southern Alps. It will snow in the west and south of the Piemonte. The smaller resorts like Limone Piemonte, Crissolo and Argentera south of the Mt. Viso will get the most snow.

The sun will come out on Sunday and that will be a great day!

Where to go?

This week I already posted an overview of snow depths and the current mountain risks. Since that post some additional snow has fallen in the eastern part of Austria. Current conditions are excellent in eastern Tirol, Salzburgerland and northern Styria.

The earlier mentioned risks are still active, however drift snow can be spotted easily by people with enough knowledge. If you are not able to spot any of these dangers, please be aware! Current avalanche risk is considerable (level
