A lot of powder, but sunshine and no precipitation coming up

Hurry up! Snow has fallen, it is cold and the conditions are fantastic. But you better be fast… I am high pressure area Dorit and I am going to lock things up. I lead storms from the Atlantic Ocean with a big arc around the British Isles, Norway and Poland to the Alps. You will certainly not see any significant snow in the coming days. You will see a lot of sun. The temperature will rise in the western Alps and the eastern Alps will see a rise in temperature as well. Don’t expect a new PowderAlert for a while. Signed Dorit.

Dorit, your worst nightmare
Dorit, your worst nightmare

High pressure area Dorit puts an end to a month full of snow. But do not worry, a lot of snow came down in the northwest and north of the Alps on Monday. In addition, the nights stay fresh and the snow on the northern slopes will remain good. By thinking carefully you can certainly ride powder in the coming period. Fresh snow came down in the following regions in the last 48 hours:

The sun comes out from the west today and it snows in the northeast, but the sun shines everywhere on Wednesday and it remains sunny until after the weekend.

Peak season in the Alps is coming up. The holidays already started in France and it will get busier the next couple of weeks. Please also read this article 'Peak season: tips to ride powder.’

It gets busier, the sun is dominant and if you still want to ride powder than the recipe looks like this the following days:

  • Tuesday: powder in the usual suspects in the aforementioned regions
  • Wednesday: powder in the smaller family ski areas and the forgotten ski areas in Switzerland in the regions mentioned above
  • Thursday to Sunday: warm air moves into the Alps. Resorts with north afces and, even better, resorts in inneralpine valleys guarantee powder. Anyone who takes his splitboard or touring skis will certainly have a good time. Dive into the untracked forests or earn your turns. Nothing better to make some nice tours in the sun. The snow machine may be temporarily switched off, but if you think carefully and are prepared to hike, you will definitely find powder. Go for north faces + inneralpine areas. Good luck!

I would like to highlight the excellent snow conditions in the Orobie Alps (between Como and Bergamo). The last storm on Sunday brought more snow than predicted by the weather models, and in larger quantities than in the northern Alps such as the Retiche and the Adamello group.
To date, only the northwest wind is partly damaging as it arrives.

Hi Morris and Arjen,
The 15 coming days (at least) look very nasty. How realistic is it that Dorit stays so long over Western Europe? Do we have to start dancing? Thanks
