The situation in Tyrol is very bad due to the extreme snowfall. The Ötztalstraße towards Sölden is closed and will remain so as long as it is not possible to fly to assess the danger. Due to the storm, power has been cut and telephone traffic is not possible. The population has been asked to report to the fire stations in case of an emergency. A total of 3500 households are without electricity.
At the moment there are also many precipitation records (unfortunately not only snow) broken. In the village of Kornat (Lesachtal) in Carinthia, 190mm of precipitation has fallen in 24 hours. The highest precipitation ever in any winter month in southern Austria. In Silian already three times as much precipitation has fallen as normal in an entire winter. This morning the they already got 204 mm of precipitation.
