wePowder presents: Gear4guides (deel IV)

[b]De wePowder community is de basis![/b]
Het project Gear4guides begint echte vormen aan te nemen. We hebben ontwerpen voor een logo ontvangen, leveranciers hebben zich gemeld en jullie hebben je hulp aangeboden. We willen de tijd nemen om de basis goed neer te zetten en het project een goede vorm te geven. We kunnen niet genoeg benadrukken dat we dit samen met jullie, de community van wePowder, willen doen. We willen dat Gear4guides breed gedragen gaat worden binnen de ski industrie, om dit bereiken willen we belangrijke stakeholders bij het project betrekken. Hiermee denken we deuren te kunnen openen die anders wellicht gesloten blijven. Een van de stakeholders is deel III geïntroduceerd; Mr. Jimmy Petterson. Een man die al 58 jaar ski ervaring heeft en in 45 landen zijn sporen in de sneeuw heeft achter gelaten. Ook heeft hij 10.000 exemplaren verkocht van het boek “Skiing Around The World” en heeft hij even zoveel artikelen gepubliceerd over de sport op het witte goud. Mr. Jimmy Petterson wil graag als Ambassadeur van Gear4guides optreden, hierover schrijft hij;

[i]Dear Olaf,[/i]

[i]Gear4guides is a wonderful idea, and I applaud you for your efforts. As you know, in societies all over the world, communities try to get children involved at an early age in sports, music and various healthy and wholesome activities. This is the route a bright future for young people. Nothing falls better into the category of a healthy and wholesome activity than skiing. It has given you and I a lifetime of enjoyment and continues to do so, and I would hope that kids all over the snow-covered parts of the world could have the same fun as we have had on the slopes. But unfortunately, there are some regions where the poverty of the local people does not give them the chance to have any ski equipment. There is no equipment for children and none even for the adults who would hopefully teach the children to ski.[/i]

[i]You and I, who have had the good fortune to ski in the spectacular mountain ranges of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey have seen first hand how little the local people have. A ski guide who has the right equipment can not only perform his job in a manner that will give us visitors a safer and richer experience, but he will be able to better use his skills to teach the local children. Of course, we must try to also get some equipment in children’s sizes as well to some of these poor mountainous areas.[/i]

[i]Many people have certainly come across and noticed the primitive equipment that some of the local guides in these poor countries are forced to use, but Gear4guides is trying to do something to change that situation, and that is great. I endorse your efforts, and hope that I can be of help in the Gear4guides efforts.[/i]

These are some of the students I told you about, going on their school sponsored ski trip in Albania. They are proudly showing the equipment they have been loaned. Many had no ski boots, so they would try to “ski” with this old equipment by placing their rubber boots or tennis shows into the bindings–not a very stable arrangement I might say.

En last but not least een mooi verhaal van iemand die hij ontmoette op langlauf ski’s:
[i]I told you about who we met in Georgia and took with us heliskiing with his primitive equipment. As you can see, he is skiing with rubber boots and poor cross country skis. He skied down over 1000 vertical meters on early morning hard spring crust. I have been skiing now for 58 years and I daresay I am a pretty good skier, but I could NOT have done what he did. He is my hero, and there are so many like him who deserve to have a better chance than that to enjoy our wonderful sport of skiing.[/i]

[b]Logo’s[/b]
We zijn ook erg trots op de logo’s die we vanuit de community hebben ontvangen. Beiden zijn erg origineel en dekken de lading waar Gear4guids voor staat. Volgende week woensdag 29 september is de sluitingstijd voor het inzenden van een ontwerp. Vanaf dan vragen we jullie te stemmen op het logo dat jij het beste vind passen bij Gear4guides!
