Avalanche Update (EP02)

Avalanche Update (EP02)

Just before you (hopefully) are going to the mountains, we have a look at the avalanche situation in de different countries in the Alps. Due to the strong winds and heavy snowfalls the avalanche conditions are critical in many areas. This is especially the case in Switzerland and Austria where we see a lot of regions with a High, level 4, avalanche danger rating. We focus in contrast on some of the bordering areas with a Considerable, level 3, rating. This sounds much better than a High, level 4, rating, but is this really the case? We’ll compare the different areas with a Considerable, level 3, rating to each other and to the areas with a High, level 4, rating. After Switzerland and Austria we pass through Italy to finally arrive in France where the situation in the southern Alps seems to be much more relaxed. In the northern Alps of France, we see again a lot of regions with a Considerable, level 3, rating.

Slow improvement

In the course of the weekend the conditions will slowly improve. But the spell of warm air after Saturday will cause more Gliding Snow avalanches. Situations for this weekend remain very touchy in many parts of the Alps. So, take care, take a guide, or stay on open pistes or ski routes! BE SAFE We wish you a very merry Christmas and nice holidays.
