Must See: Above Arolla

You might have already caught the latest gem from the Hidden Faces crew at the Freeride Film Festival in Amsterdam, but if you missed it there (or maybe just want to watch it again), here it is! The film Above Arolla: 50 Years of Steep Skiing on the Pigne d’Arolla follows Paul de Groot and Loïc Isliker as they descend the north face of the Pigne d’Arolla in Switzerland. This stunning slope was first skied 50 years ago by steep-skiing legend André Anzévui. What makes Above Arolla so special is the timeless passion that connects the skiers of the past with today’s freeriders. If that’s not inspiration for the upcoming season, what is?

About the Pigne d’Arolla

The Pigne d’Arolla, located in the Swiss canton of Valais, is a striking mountain at the end of the Val d’Hérens, standing at 3,787 meters. Its north face, visible from Arolla, is renowned as an extreme descent with sections steeper than 50 degrees. It was first skied in 1974 by André Anzévui, and in 1998 Gilbert Crettaz became the first to snowboard down this route.

Arjen
was born with maps of ski areas in the cradle and has visited almost all of them. His great passion is freeriding.
